Learn about the natural history of the Waterberg UNESCO world site & end the afternoon with a breathtaking game drive in our stunning local Big 5 reserve.

What to Expect

This is a full day trip comprised of two activities:

We start the day by visiting the Waterberg Living Museum, which is a 50ha (124 acre) complex with a combined 1.2km (0.75 miles) walk-through expedition of the natural history of this immensely biodiverse part of South Africa. Many call it a living classroom, a natural & cultural history museum, an exhibit of living creatures, and a botanical garden, all in one place! The Living Museum is six in one, with these six museums exhibiting: Past and Present, Elephant House, Rhino Museum, Anthrosphere, Ancient Africa, and the Memory Museum which captures special moments in the history of the museum itself. The living part of the museum refers to the animals which you may encounter while walking between the halls.

After a delicious lunch at the museum, we will head to our local Big 5 reserve for an afternoon game viewing. With an open safari vehicle (with roof) you enter the reserve with the driver who is also your ranger and guide. He or she tells you all about the reserve, the animals, trees, plants, and other interesting facts, while we are on the lookout for the most elusive of them all: leopards. The reserve is not only home to a vast array of animals including the Big 5, but offers savannah, rivers, lakes, and mountainous landscapes. During the trip, the driver will stop at a safe place for a drink and some snacks.

The sun will have set by the time the game drive is complete, so it is time to head back to Berchtesgaden where our team will be busy preparing Dinner and the lit fire will be burning bright under the African sky.
